Hey Mobbers!

Thank you so much for your unbelievably hard work at Burge the other weekend – we were lucky to have some of the most gorgeous weather of the season, and we hope our luck holds out in early September. On the 7th, we’ll be heading to Arabia Mountain and the Flat Rock Archive. We’ll be prepping beds, mulching paths and around trees, and perhaps even doing a bit of planting. We’ll enjoy a brief talk about the Archive and Flat Rock’s interesting and powerful history.

But wait, it gets better. If you haven’t gotten a chance to explore Arabia Mountain, you’re welcome to stick around after the mob and take advantage of the nature preserve and hiking trails. In fact, you’re welcome to camp out with us in the preserve if you’d like! It’s a primitive camp site with a fire ring and a porta-potty. If you’d like to camp, please bring your own gear, water and comforts to keep you happy and protected from the elements. Car access is right next to the site, so coolers with prepared foods are encouraged for everyone’s convenience. Also bring games, instruments, lawn chairs – all the makings of a fun fall camping kickoff. We’ll also plan an evening/night hike and enjoy fellowship by the fire. Please wear long pants, socks, and closed toed shoes – ticks and chiggers are very common.

AND THERE’S STILL MORE EXCITEMENT!!! The next morning (Sept. 8), The Homestead Atlanta is holding a muscadine foraging workshop at Arabia Mtn. from 10-1 with naturalist and forager extraordinaire, Ranger Robby Astrove. The cost is normally between $30-45, but since mobbers consistently work hard to help the local community, if you’d like to stick around in the morning for a muscadine hike and discussion of the ecology of Arabia Mountain, you can sign up for the reduced fee of $15 – your contribution goes to helping The Homestead continue to offer unique classes in self-reliance and sustainability skills. Because registration for the class isn’t available yet, please email info@thehomesteadatl.com to reserve your spot.

So there it is! A great kick off to autumn! Spaces are limited, so reserve yours today. And if you can’t make it, please let us know so we can free the spot up for another person. See you there!
